Easy Healthy Salad @ Resepi Salad Diet

This is our second salad dinner for this week, this week I try to make the salads as healthy as possible, cutting out the unnecessary oils and sauces. Salad tasted light and I added fruits to make my otherwise-salad-avoiding-hubby eat his greens. For the dressing, I ditched the olive oil and used lemon juice and date syrup instead.

Easy Healthy Salad Recipe


My easy healthy salad recipe is as follows:

1 bunch of green coral salad
1 bunch of red coral salad
1 mango - diced
3 tbsp of dried cranberries
3 tbsp of toasted pistachios

For the dressing:
Juice of 1/4 lemon
3 tbsp pure date syrup (use honey if you don't have this)

That's it. Easy and fast, light and healthy :)

Minggu ini, I cuba salad buah pula, memandangkan Mr Hubby komen yang salad I ni buat dia tambah berat badan bukan kurangkan berat badan. Jadi, salad buah yang sihat je lah minggu ni, tak guna dressing mayo, sour cream, yoghurt, olive oil.. semua kena pangkah.. last-last I pakai lemon juice & madu or lemon juice & date syrup sahaja...nak sihat macam mana lagi pun tak tahu dah.. :p

Yang salad buah bawah ni, I langsung tak perah apa-apa, hanya pastikan buah-buahan yang dipilih benar-benar masak jadi manisnya asli.

Resepi Salad Buah:

1 biji dragon fruit
1 biji mangga
3 biji ciku
10 biji anggur


Rasanya ok lah jugak, cuma haritu ciku kurang manis dan secara peribadi I lagi suka mangga + strawberry cuma haritu strawberry korea takde di supermarket, bukan nak memilih tapi strawberry cameron highlands / america kurang manis berbanding dengan strawberry korea, pastu takkan nak tambah gula kan kalau nak makan salad sihat jadi ingatkan ciku manis bolehlah buat pengganti. Tapi in "retrospective" mungkin buah lai lebih sesuai..

Resepi Salad Ayam Rosemary dan Kentang

My Rosemary and Thyme Chicken Salad with Potatoes


Hmm.. this was our fourth salad dinner, I have to admit that by far this is the most calorie laden salad I prepared this week and I felt so guilty cos it tasted so delicious. Hubby said I should cut down on the potatoes, chicken and wrap. Sigh, I guess he is right, but I'm keeping this recipe anyways :p

I call this "Rosemary & Thyme Chicken With Potatoes Salad" ingredients are as such (Serves 2) :

200gm chicken fillet
1 tbsp dried thyme
1 tbsp dried rosemary
1 tsp garlic salt
1 small shallot - sliced
2 tbsp olive oil
2 small potatoes
pinch of salt
1 ripe tomato
1bunch baby asparagus
1 packet Green Salanova

How to make the Rosemary & Thyme Chicken With Potatoes Salad:

1. Mix the thyme, rosemary, garlic salt and shallot with the chicken. Leave for about 10 minutes.
2. Cut the potatoes into small quarters and boil until 70% cooked. Place on a plate, drizzle with olive oil and salt.
3. Cut the baby asparagus into shorter pieces and blanch it in boiling water with a pinch of salt. Drain and put away.
4. Heat up a non-stick saucepan, add in the chicken, tomatoes and potatoes. Make sure to turn the potatoes so that each side gets to brown. Put away the potatoes and leave the tomatoes and chicken till the chicken is cooked.
5. Arrange the Salanova, potatoes, chicken, tomatoes and asparagus on a plate and drizzle with the dressing.  

Salad Dressing Recipe:

60ml plain yoghurt
60ml sour cream
2 cloves garlic - finely minced
1 tbsp spring onion - finely minced
1 tbsp parsley - finely minced
1 tsp ground coriander
1/2tsp black pepper
1 tbsp honey

How to make the salad dressing?

Just mix everything together and whisk till smooth.

Versi Bahasa Melayu

Hmm.. ini adalah salad ke-empat kami untuk makan malam minggu ini. Terus terang ini adalah salad yang terberat kalorinya untuk minggu ini dan saya rasa sungguh bersalah sebab saladnya rasa begitu sedap. Hubby komen supaya kurangkan kentang, ayam dan wrap..hmm.. memang betul tu..tapi..nak jugak simpan resepi ni...

Saya namakan resepi salad ini "Salad Ayam Rosemary, Thyme dan Kentang" bahan-bahan seperti berikut (untuk 2 orang):

200gm isi ayam
1 sdt serbuk thyme
1 sdm serbuk rosemary
1 sdt garlic salt
1 biji bawang kecik - dihiris
2 sdm minyak zaitun
2 biji kentang kecil 
secubit garam
1 biji tomato
1ikat baby asparagus
1 peket Green Salanova

Cara-cara membuat Salad Ayam Rosemary, Thyme dan Kentang:

1. Campurkan thyme, rosemary, garlic salt dan bawang kecil dengan ayam. Biarkan selama 10 minit.
2. Potong kentang empat dan rebus hingga 70% masak. Ketepikan di atas pinggan dan tuangkan minyak dan garam di atasnya. 
3. Potong pendek baby asparagus dan rebus bersama sedikit garam. Angkat dan ketepikan.
4. Panaskan kuali non-stick, masukkan ayam, tomato dan kentang. Pastikan anda balikkan kentang supaya kentang garing sedikit di setiap permukaan. Ketepikan kentang dan biarkan tomato dan ayam hingga ayam  masak.
5. Aturkan salad Salanova, kentang, ayam, tomato dan asparagus di atas pinggan dan taburkan dressing di atasnya.

Resepi Salad Dressing:

60ml tairu
60ml sour cream
2 biji bawang putih - dicincang halus
1 sdm daun bawang - dicincang halus
1 sdm daun sup - dicincang halus
1 sdt serbuk ketumbar
1/2 sdt serbuk lada hitam
1 sdm madu

Bagaimana nak buat salad dressing?

Hanya campurkan semua bahan-bahan dan pukul hingga rata.

Resepi Masakan Sihat : Teriyaki Chicken With Apple and Mango Salad



This was our third salad dinner, yes.. I love my meat and my salad aren't in the strictest sense, but still it's a healthier change from my normal calorie laden typical asian rice dinner.

Recipe for Teriyaki Chicken With Apple and Mango Salad:

200gm chicken fillet
2 tbsp teriyaki marinade
1 red apple - diced
1 large ripe mango - diced
A handful of Iceberg Lettuce
A handful of Pea Sprout
A dollop of sour cream - if desired

How to prepare the salad?

1. Marinate the chicken with the teriyaki marinade and grill on the saucepan till tender.
2. Toss the lettuce, pea sprout, apple and mango together.

That's it, fast and easy. You can also add in some strawberries if you like :)


Resepi Salad Chicken & Apple With Ranch Dressing

My Chicken & Apple Salad with Ranch Dressing

Below is our second salad dinner this week, I was trying to make Chicken Waldorf Salad but found the ingredients lacking in my fridge, so I make do with what I had instead. 

Salad Recipe:

2 tbsp olive oil
200gm chicken fillet
salt 
black pepper
2 red apples - sliced if you are eating the salad on its own and diced if you are putting it in a wrap
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 handfuls of yellow frisee
1 handful of pea sprout
2 tbsp raisins

Ranch Dressing:

1 small clove garlic - finely chopped
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp finely minced spring onion
1 tsp finely minced fresh parsley
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp lemon juice
60 ml plain yoghurt
60 ml mayonnaise
2 tbsp sour cream

Found the yellow frisee and pea sprout to be a tad bitter so I put it in a wrap instead.

To make the salad:

1. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Heat up the oil in the pan and grill till tender. (Or you can put the chicken on a plate, drizzle oil over it and microwave on high for two minutes)
2. Place apples in a large bowl, drizzle with lemon juice and toss in the yellow frisee, pea sprout and raisins.
3. Add in the warm chicken and drizzle the dressing on top.


To prepare the dressing, just mix everything together and whisk till smooth.

Malay Version:

Ini adalah salad kedua kami untuk makan malan buat minggu ini. Sebenarnya nak cuba buat Chicken Waldorf Salad tapi bahan-bahan tak ada pula dalam peti ais, jadi campak je lah apa yang ada tu..


Resepi Salad:

2 sdm minyak zaitun
200gm isi ayam
garam
lada hitam
2 biji epal merah - dihiris jika anda akan makan salad begitu sahaja atau didadu jika dimakan dengan wrap.
2 sdm jus lemon
2 genggam yellow frisee
1 genggam pea sprout
2 sdm kismis hitam

Ranch Dressing:

1 biji bawang putih - dicincang halus
1 sdt serbuk ada hitam
1 sdm daun bawang - dicincang halus
1 sdt daun sup - dicincang halus
1/2 sdt serbuk ketumbar
1/2 sdt jus lemon
60 ml tairu
60 ml mayonnaise
2 sdm sour cream

Cara-cara membuat salad:

1.Lumurkan ayam dengan garam dan serbuk lada hitam. Panaskan minyak atas kuali dan masak hingga empuk (atau susun ayam di atas pinggan, tuangkan minyak zaitun di atasnya dan microwave selama 2 minit)
2. Masukkan epal di dalam mangkuk dan siramkan jus lemon di atasnya kemudian tambahkan yellow frisee, pea sprout dan kismis dan gaul rata.
3. Masukkan ayam yang masih hangat dan taburkan dressing.

Untuk menyiapkan dressing, campurkan semua bahan-bahan dan gaul rata.




Resepi Salad Diet @ Healthy Salad Recipe

Hmmm.. hubby has decided to change our diet to a healthier one and has requested for salad dinners for weekday nights, yippee.. no more stacks of dirty pots to wash and no more slaving over the stove, I am loving our new diet. So many recipes to try out and I get to lose some weight too :) Today, I decided to do a kiwi salad, below is the quick and simple recipe. 

Kiwi Salad For your Diet



Healthy Kiwi Salad Recipe:

2 handfuls of your desired greens (I used Yellow Frisee)
4 ripe yellow kiwis
1-2tbsp of raisins
2 tbsp cubed feta cheese

For the dressing:

2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey, 
juice of half an orange

Mix everything together and chill. 

If you are in the mood for something more filing, just take a wholegrain wrap, put in some tuna and add in the salad for a yummy healthy wrap!

Wholewheat Tuna Wrap That is Oh-So-Wholesome :)

Malay Version:

Memandangkan hubby minta tukar cara pemakanan kami ke salad segar bagi makan malam, makin gembiralah saya sebab dah makin kurang masa yang perlu sibuk di dapur :) Bestnya makan salad setiap malam, macam-macam resepi salad boleh cuba dan paling best lagi.. bolehlah kurangkan berat badan sikit :) Malam ni kita cuba salad kiwi, ni salad saya try campak-campak je.. salad pun try apa yang ada di Tesco tu.. :) 

Resepi Salad Kiwi Sihat:

2 genggam sayur salad kegemaran anda (saya guna yellow frisee)
4 biji kiwi kuning ranum
1 - 2 sdm kismis
2 sdm keju feta yang didadu

Untuk Salad Dressing:

2 sdm minyak zaitun
2 sdm madu
jus setengah biji limau

Jika anda inginkan sesuatu yang lebih mengenyangkan, ambil 1 wholegrain wrap, letakkan tuna dan salad di dalamnya dan anda akan dapat menikmati wrap yang sihat untuk makan malam anda!

Kuala Lumpur Zoo - Animal Feeding for Kids and Toddlers

Feeding rabbits at KL Zoo

We have visited Zoo Negara (Kuala Lumpur Zoo) a number of times with the kids as the kids love to see the animals and usually as the Kuala Lumpur Zoo has no stroller nor scooter facilities, speakers which do not really function well and eateries which serves food that is not very palatable, we often try to keep the visit to under 1 hour. 

Firstly we will turn left from the entrance of the zoo to see the elephants and giraffes, then detour back near the entrance for the tram ride. The tram ride basically covers the elephants, giraffes, big cats, buffaloes, goats, ostriches, rhinos and hippos. You have to get down the tram if you want to see the bears, crocodiles, snakes, apes flying foxes and what not. But, our kids are quite happy with just the tram ride. 

This trip though, after the tram ride, we decided to check out "Children's World", I have always thought that it is some kind of kids' playground or pony riding area but apparently it's a place for the kids to feed the miniature horses, goats, rabbits, deers and tortoises. It costs RM3 for a bunch of leafy greens and long beans and RM5 for two bunches. We bought two bunches and the kids still wanted more. (Readers: Note that we came again on 26th May 2012 and was told that there is no animal feeding and that you can only pet the animals, animal feeding are totally at the discretion of the keepers and they have no fixed schedule. If you manage to catch them, It will be around 12.00-1.00pm -Sigh.. I guess we were lucky that Mother's Day, our kids were totally disappointed this time round)

The miniature horse that we fed at KL Zoo - he is so beautiful and gentle

One of the miniature horses is a bully, so the other miniature horses was scared to come up for a feed as the bully will charge to him every time someone tries to feed him. The miniature horse only gets a feed when the bully is busy being fed by someone else. We gave the miniature horse most of our long beans, he was very gentle and not aggressive.


The deers and rabbits are also very gentle and do not snatch the greens forcefully from us. The only aggressive eaters are the goats, they come in a group and try to stick their heads out of the fences and even climbed part of it. My scaredy toddler didn't want to go near them so I asked him to throw the feed into the enclosure instead.

We finished our Kuala Lumpur Zoo trip with a walk past the gibbons and monkeys and was also treated to a sight of the hippos out of the water for their feeding (it was about 2pm). All in all, it was a fun animal feeding trip at Kuala Lumpur Zoo :)

New Hotel at The Curve and Ice Skating Rink


KL Kids Fun: Ice Skating at The Royale Bintang Damansara Hotel



A new hotel near The Curve Shopping Centre called The Royale Bintang Damansara is slated to open early June 2012, this new hotel is a sister of the only hotel currently at the same vicinity The Royale Bintang The Curve. It is very conveniently located if you are visiting Kidzania KL. 

The Royale Bintang Damansara is accessible from the ground floor at e@Curve and is also equipped with an ice skating rink. We had our dinner at e@curve last weekend and coincidently there was some music playing at The Royale Bintang Damansara Hotel, so we decided to check out whether the ice skating rink is already open.

Sadly, the ice skating rink at The Royal Bintang Damansara Hotel is slated to open together with the hotel opening early June 2012 (so said the girl at the counter, the lady over the phone though refused to commit and said that it is slated to open this year - so when exactly they will be open is anybody's guess right now). However, I managed to get some information from the staff for those of you who are eager to bring their kids to have some fun in the ice skating rink. 



Details are as such:

Minimum Age: 5 years old.
Fees (per entry and inclusive of skates) : RM22 on weekdays and RM25 on weekends
Coaching Services: RM 25 per hour (kids) RM55 per 1/2 hour (adults) only available on weekends.
Operating Hours: 10 am to 10 pm

Do note that they will not provide socks nor jacket, so do come prepared.

An ice skating rink in PJ seems like a lot of fun for KL kids but I'm pretty sure it will be very crowded during the weekend, so best to go during weekdays after the kids come back from school :)

My Lazy Foul Recipe / Resepi Kacang Pool Ringkas

My Simple Foul Recipe


When I am alone at home with the kids screaming for attention and my tummy screaming for food, my quick fix will always be my lazy foul recipe. Just chop everything up and throw it in the pan.. and wallah! This super quick foul recipe is only for tomato lovers though. 

Foul Recipe is as such:

2 tbsp clarified ghee
1 medium sized onion - sliced
1 green chili- sliced
3 - 4 tbsp tomato puree
1 large fresh tomato - diced
1 tsp ground fennel seed
1 tsp ground cumin
1 can fava beans
some water - to your desired consistency.  
salt to taste

How to make this super simple fava bean dish?

Just heat up the clarfied ghee in the saucepan, saute the onions and chili, add in the rest of the ingredients and mash the fava beans while you are at it. Serve with warm bread. 

Malay Version:

Ini adalah resepi kacang pool saya apabila mood kurang rajin tapi perut dah berbunyi.. ringkas, cepat dan sedap :) hanya bagi penggemar tomato sahaja..

Resepi Kacang Pool:

2 sdm minyak sapi
1 biji bawang besar -saiz sederhana dan dihiris
1 tangka cili hijau - dihiris
3 - 4 sdm tomato puree
1 biji tmato segar - saiz besar dan didadu
1 sdt jintan manis
1 sdt jintan putih
1 tin kacang pool
sedikit air - mengikut citarasa anda
secubit garam

Cara-cara memasak kacang pool:

Panaskan minyak sapi di atas kuali dan tumiskan bawang dan cili hijau, kemudian masukkan bahan-bahan yang lain. Hidangkan bersama roti hangat.

Resepi Salmon Ringkas dan Mudah

My resepi ikan salmon yang mudah dan ringkas :)

Hari ni datang mood nak cuba masak salmon, sebelum ni tak pernah masak pun ikan salmon, makan adalah :) memandangkan hari ni rajin sikit bangun awal, kita cubalah masak sarapan special sikit buat hubby. Rupa-rupanya senang lah jugak nak masak salmon ni, cepat masak dan ringkas bahan-bahannya. Hmm..macam ni lain kali boleh try lagi :)

Resepi Ikan Salmon:

200gm isi ikan salmon  (saya potong 3 dan hiris 2 lagi supaya isi tak terlalu tebal)
1 sdm serbuk basil (selasih)
1 sdm serbuk bawang putih 
1/2 sdt garam
2 sdm mentega


Resepi Ikan Salmon: Ikan salmon yang dilumur rempah sebelum digoreng

Cara-cara masak ikan salmon:

1. Gaulkan serbuk basil, serbuk bawang putih dan garam kemudian lumurkan di kedua-dua bahagian ikan salmon)

2. Panaskan mentega di atas kuali (guna api kecil) dan goreng ikan salmon tadi.

3. Tos dan ketepikan. 

Resepi Sos Putih Ikan Salmon:

1 biji bawang merah (saiz kecil) dadu halus
4 ulas bawang putih ditumbuk
1 sdm jus lemon
180ml cooking cream (saya guna jenama Elle & Vire)
sedikit lada putih 

Cara-cara membuat sos putih untuk ikan salmon:

1. Gunakan kembali mentega bekas ikan salmon goreng tadi dan tumiskan bawang merah dan bawang putih hingga layu (kalau nampak mentega macam kurang untuk menumis tambah lagi)

2. Masukkan cooking cream sehingga mencapai kepekatan yang anda inginkan.

3. Tambahkan jus lemon dan lada putih. 

4. Hidangan ikan salmon di atas pinggan dan tuangkan sos putih di atasnya.

Opening A Bank Account in Malaysia With A Dependant Pass

When I recently arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia two years back, I remembered that the first thing I wanted to do was to open a bank account. Unfortunately, at that time as I was on a social visit visa, I couldn't open a bank account. Two years has passed since we first started to call Kuala Lumpur our home and I seem to have managed without a bank account just fine. But, recently, since hubby has started working and I am really itching to sign up with Nuffnang Ads Malaysia, I decided that it's high time to open a bank account. 

I have narrowed down two banks to open an account with in Kuala Lumpur; Maybank and CIMB Bank. These are two banks with prominent presence in Kuala Lumpur and widely used by online vendors to facilitate easy online payments (Maybank2u or CIMBClicks). 

First stop: Maybank

A quick enquiry reveals that as a dependant pass holder, you need these documents to open your own savings or current account with Maybank:

  • original passport and valid visa 
  • a copy of the front page of your passport and visa page
  • original passport of the primary pass holder with a valid visa (your spouse)
  • a copy of the front page of the primary pass holder and visa page
  • a letter from institution (if the primary pass holder is on student pass) or company (if the primary pass holder is on employment pass) stating that you are the spouse of the primary pass holder and that the primary pass holder is a student / an employee in that institution / company. 
  • marriage certificate (this is at the bank officer's discretion)


Please ensure that the letter includes the primary pass holder's name and passport number,your name and your passport number, and a direct line to an officer for the bank officer to contact for confirmation purpose. 

Once you have the documents ready, all you need is to sign some forms and request for a Maybank Visa Debit Card and Maybank Internet Banking (don't forget to also register your mobile number for 2FA or TAC as they call it here) and you are all set. Please note that the minimum deposit required for opening the bank account is RM250.

Second Stop: CIMB Bank

This extra quick enquiry disappointingly reveals that as a dependant pass holder you can not open a personal bank account. You need the primary pass holder to be with you at the point of opening the bank account and it has to be a joint account. What a bummer. All other documentation required are as per Maybank above. I forgot the exact amount required for deposit on opening the bank account but I do remember it to be higher than Maybank's requirement.

Trouble Signing Up With Nuffnang Ads

When I was just starting out blogging and was interested in looking at avenues to start making money from my blog other than using google adwords, I saw a number of Singapore and Malaysia blogs featuring advertisements from Nuffnang. I was quite eager to try out Nuffnang but tried many times to sign up online to no avail. My problem is always the incorrect freecaps image entered even though i keyed in the words many times and reloaded a new image just to ensure that I key in the new one right. After trying out for about 5 times each time on many different occasions I gave up. But then one day, I decided to call up Nuffnang Malaysia as I can't stand to believe that other bloggers are able to sign up whereas I am having difficulty. It turned out that the problem is resolved simply by deleting your browser's cache and instantly I managed to sign up as a Nuffnang Blogger. 

Unfortunately, I signed up under Singapore Nuffnang Ads as I figured the payment procedures will be easier BUT my audience are more to Malaysians and I did not know that Singapore Nuffnang Ads are not integrated with Malaysia Nuffnang Ads, that means Nuffnang Ads do not have the technology like Google Adwords to automatically detect your audience country and serve ads relevant to their country or interests. As such, even though my status as a Nuffnang Ads Blogger is Glitterati (this status is automatically conferred to you if your blog traffic is quite decent) I am earning very little from CTR as the Singapore Nuffnang Ads served are not relevant to the majority of my readers who are Malaysian. So, bloggers, please take note of your audience and sign up with the correct Nuffnang Ads (Singapore/ Malaysia/Australia/Philippines/China/Hong Kong).

Rocket Salad Recipe @ Salad Sayur Segar

My simple rocket salad recipe
(Untuk Bahasa Melayu, sila skrol ke bawah)

We had special guests last weekend and aside from catering, I prepared some simple dishes. Among them was this rocket salad that the gals love. so I'm sharing the recipe for them to recreate it at home.

Recipe for the rocket salad is as such:

2 large handfuls of rocket leaves
1 pear sliced into wedges
3 tbsp toasted crushed hazelnuts
3 tbsp feta cheese cut in cubes
1 tsp sugar (optional, you can omit it if your pear is ripe or you like your pear crunchy)

Dressing for rocket salad:

3 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp lemon zest (finely sliced into tiny bits)

How to make the rocket salad:

1. Mix in the rocket leaves, pear and hazelnut, sprinkle some sugar and set aside.
2. Prepare the dressing.
3. Add in the feta cubes and then drizzle the dressing.
4. Chill in the fridge till ready to be served.

Pada hujung minggu yang lepas, tetamu istimewa datang mengunjung. Selain dari menempah makanan, saya juga menyediakan beberapa hidangan yang mudah. Diantaranya adalah salad sayur segar yang tanpa diduga diminati oleh tetamu-tetamu wanita saya :) so resepi salad segar ini adalah untuk mereka menyediakan salad sayur ini di rumah :)

Resepi untuk salad sayur segar:

2 genggam besar salad rocket
1 biji buah pir di hiris halus
3 sdm kacang hazel yang disangar dan ditumbuk kasar
3 sdm keju feta yang didadu kecil
1 sdt gula pasir (boleh tak letak kalau pir dah ranum atau anda suka pir yang rangup)

Dressing untuk salad sayur segar:

3 sdm minyak zaitun
1 sdm madu
1 sdm jus lemon 
1 sdm kulit lemon yang dihiris halus

Cara-cara membuat salad sayur segar: 

1. Campurkan salad rocket, hirisan pir dan kacang hazel, taburkan gula dan ketepikan.
2. Siapkan dressing. 
3. Masukkan keju feta ke dalam salad dan tuangkan dressing di atas salad.
4. Simpan di dalam peti ais sehingga sedia untuk dihidangkan.
